Dads and pregnancy: 4 ways to connect with your baby

Fatherhood begins long before your baby is born. That's why it's important for dads to be actively involved during this period. We know that for obvious reasons, this connection can be a little more challenging for men than for women, but there are many ways to connect with your baby from the moment he or she is born.

In fact, during these 9 months the father-child bond begins to form, as long as the father is involved in the gestation, and is present and actively interacting (although be careful that this bond can also be established later)

Go to prenatal check-ups together with your partner

Parenthood begins long before the birth of your child, and even if it is the woman who is pregnant, It is important that you participate in the evolution of your pregnancy from day one. During check-ups, the gynaecologist will give you important information for both of you, you will be able to resolve your doubts and learn how to accompany and support your partner during this period. In addition, seeing your baby and hearing his or her heart on ultrasounds is something you don't want to miss.

Talk to your baby

Around the 4th month, the baby can already hear sounds from his/her own body and from the mother's, and in the 6th month, he/she begins to perceive sounds from outside, although of course you can talk to him/her before! Talk to him/her, sing to him/her, tell him/her stories , whatever suits you, but don't miss the opportunity to connect with your child from pregnancy. In addition, the voices that the baby heard the most during his/her intrauterine life will be the ones that will give him/her the greatest calm as a newborn.

Learn about pregnancy and childbirth or cesarean section

Just because the woman is pregnant doesn't mean that she should be the only one to be informed about the care during this period and her options for delivery or cesarean section. Get information from reliable sources, attend talks (your partner's gynecologist can guide you with this), share experiences with your loved ones, etc. Information gives peace of mind to many mothers and fathers, and that will allow you to connect with your baby from a position of calm and relaxation.

Sign up for a prenatal course or workshop

Take a childbirth preparation class or sign up for a prenatal fitness class for couples, such as yoga or gymnastics, among other things. Or if you prefer something more private, you can practice breathing exercises together at home or a relaxation routine. Use this time to strengthen your relationship with your partner, bond as a team, and of course, connect with your baby.

Did you know that many men also experience symptoms during pregnancy?

Several studies have shown that men can also experience some of the symptoms of pregnancy , such as mood swings, nausea, vomiting, cravings, weight gain and fatigue, which is known as Couvade Syndrome.

Apparently, this is related to hormonal changes in women, who secrete certain substances that can be assimilated by men (pheromones). In addition, there are also studies that reveal an increase in specifically feminine hormones in men, with the consequent symptoms that they produce in the body.
