At 34, Constanza was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her son Clemente was 7 months old (now 3 years old) and while she was beginning her journey as a mother, she had to gather strength to also battle her illness. "Having cancer and being a mother is very difficult, sad, exhausting, frustrating, but at the same time, it makes you stronger than anything you can imagine," says the creator of @mamasinpelos, who went into remission in March 2022. A mother, lawyer and cancer survivor, here she shares with us about her motherhood and that challenging journey, full of surprises and learnings.

The questionnaire to Constanza Martínez from @mamasinpelos

Motherhood turned me into: the best and worst version of myself (angel and ogre).

As a mom, I'm great at: organizing in record time and doing crafts.

As a mom, I'm terrible at: playing.

Something I wish someone had told me before becoming a mom: that it's normal to feel guilty most of the time.

The phrase from your son that melts you: I love you forever and ever.

I can never say no to my son when… he begs me with his little hands and manipulative face (good boy) to do or give him something.

Since we became moms/dads, the relationship with my partner has been difficult and intense , but we have learned how to grow and move forward with patience and love.

What I said I would never be like as a mom and now I do: I give him sugar and turn on the television.

Best motherhood advice I've ever been given: Never compare yourself to any other mom , you're doing just fine in your own way.

My favorite motherhood cliché is: the “supermom,” the one who can do it all. But that’s really just who we are.

My most unpopular opinion on motherhood: watch screens when you're overwhelmed so you have a minute of peace of mind before you collapse.

My greatest learning from motherhood is: mothers are DRY.

My cancer diagnosis made me a more conscious and present mom.

What about motherhood has helped you deal with cancer? Being diagnosed with cancer while having Cleme helped me discover a supernatural inner strength to move forward, to be there for him.

What things about cancer have helped you in your motherhood? There are things that are worse than leaving the floor covered in glitter hahaha. I learned to let go and get overwhelmed by more important things.

In the course of this illness, my son has been: my greatest achievement, my everything!

After cancer, I am a mom: going a mile a minute. I try to do everything and I almost never stop.
