The temperatures are still very intense, and we know that this can affect your baby's good rest. That is why we propose 6 very easy-to-apply techniques that will help you relieve your baby's heat at bedtime, thus giving him a quality rest.
1. Give him a cool bath
A cooler than usual bath before bed can help regulate your baby's body temperature before sleep.
2. Refresh it with a damp muslin
Close to bedtime, you can refresh your baby with a wet muslin swaddle . Just wet the swaddle with cold/warm water, wring it out, and then put it over your baby; you can wrap him or her up, put it on his or her back, head, tummy, or behind his or her neck, which are areas where he or she tends to feel the heat.
3. Increase the amount of fluids
If your baby is breastfed, increase the number of times he or she is fed per day. If your baby is older than 6 months and the pediatrician has given the OK to introduce water into his or her diet, offer him or her more water than usual during the day.
4. Monitor ambient temperature
In some areas, temperatures fluctuate rapidly, so you should monitor it overnight with a room thermometer. You may need to remove or add more layers overnight, especially if there are sudden changes in temperature.
5. Check if your baby is hot
Is he cold or hot? The way to tell is to put your hand on his chest or upper back. His extremities, hands and feet, are always colder.
Remember that some children are hotter than others. If your baby sleeps well the way you dress him, then it's perfect and you don't have to change anything.
6. Put a fan in the room
A fan will keep the air moving and create a cooler breeze. You can put frozen water bottles in front of the fan to help cool the room faster, as it works as a sort of 'home air conditioner'.
