When it's too early to spoon, it's the perfect time for NumNum.

Sold in a two-stage kit, NumNum GOOtensil™ is the revolutionary new first step to self-feeding. Its innovative flat design makes it easier to use than a spoon because there's no scooping, balancing, and no wrong way to hold it! The Stage One GOOtensil™ has textures that grab just the right amount of food to give a taste of feeding independence.

These textures feel great on sore gums too! For children who have mastered moving food to their mouth, GOOtensil™ Stage Two is perfect for thicker, pre-filled mixtures with solids. Before long, your little learner will begin to make a scooping motion, an indication that he or she is ready to move on to the spoon. NumNum, indeed!

When to use it
To safely use a utensil, a child must be able to sit up unassisted and hold his or her head up. After which, experts recommend introducing a utensil when the child expresses interest. This can happen as early as 6 months, but most children are really ready to handle utensils between 10 and 14 months.

Ideal foods
GOOtensils can be used with a variety of foods including baby food, homemade mixes, oatmeal, yogurt, puree and more. We share recipes on our social media often!

How to use
Introduce the stage one pre-spoon (with raised textures) first so the child can soothe sore gums while getting acclimated to holding the utensil. Once the child has learned the basic movement from food to mouth, the stage two pre-spoon, which holds more food, can be used interchangeably for thicker foods.

When to transition to a spoon
Most children begin rotating their wrist around their second birthday. Rotating the wrist unlocks grasping and balance, allowing the child to use a spoon correctly. Some signs that wrist rotation has been established include picking up the corners of the bowl and successfully maneuvering the spoon toward the mouth with more food. If these signs are present, congratulations, your child is ready to move on to the spoon!
