10 gifts for the postpartum period (that are not so obvious)

The postpartum period is one of the most challenging stages in a woman's life . Overflowing love, fatigue, euphoria, lack of sleep, hormonal changes, joy, sadness... all at once in a chaotic period in which mothers give their all for their newborn.

And although every postpartum period is different, there is something that all mothers need equally: love and care. That is why we have created this list of 10 gifts, neither so obvious nor so typical, that will surely put a smile from ear to ear on that mother.

1. Frozen food

A safe gift that every family with a newborn at home will appreciate. Frozen food is a great lifesaver for new mothers who, with so many things on their minds, often the last thing they think about is eating well. You can prepare something yourself or buy it ready-made, and the gesture will mean a lot .

2. Relaxation massage

During the postpartum period , a woman's body is working at full speed to recover after childbirth or a cesarean section, and to meet the physical and emotional demands of the baby. This, in addition to breastfeeding, requires a significant amount of energy and nutrients from the mother. To give the body and mind a break, there is nothing better than a relaxation massage.

Of course, make sure to give one that is suitable for postpartum and organize it in such a way that it is most comfortable for that mother (for example, at home, near her home or an undated gift card so she can schedule it).

3. A deep cleaning of the house

Whether done by you or by a company that offers this service, believe us, having a clean and tidy house can be the best gift for a family with a newborn. Of course, confirm with that mom or dad first (there are people who are more reserved about the privacy of their home), and if they give you the OK, don't hesitate!

4. Bath set for the mother (and keep the baby with her so she can drink it)

During the postpartum period, showers are usually taken against the clock and with the door open, often without even having time to wash the hair. Therefore, an incredible detail for that mother can be products for a relaxing bath, but also time to give it to her.

There's no point in a nice bath salt or essential oil if it's going to sit in the medicine cabinet for months. So along with the gift, offer to spend some time with the baby. You can't imagine how those 30 minutes of relaxation in the tub with the door closed can make a HUGE difference for that mom.

5. An entertainment activity for the older brother/sister

If the family already has children, the parents will surely be trying to multiply their time in order to provide care for the newborn without neglecting his/her brother(s). But sometimes it is inevitable that the older ones feel displaced, so an excellent way to alleviate the mother or father's concern is to invite the brother(s) to an entertaining activity. It can be a trip to the movies, an outing for ice cream or an afternoon in the park; as long as it is quality time, it will be very welcome.

6. Memories

The arrival of a baby is such a demanding stage that goes by so quickly that many moms and dads don't have time to think about keeping records of this period. Sure, we all have photos on our cell phones, but what if you give that family a photo session ? If you collect photos in a photobook ? Or if you offer to edit (or have edited) a video with the most emotional moments of this period?

7. Subscription to a streaming platform

The postpartum period is a very demanding stage, but also one of many (many!) hours of immobility for mothers, while the baby feeds or sleeps. Although the telephone is a great ally for those periods when we are 'trapped' with the baby in our arms, sometimes it is not enough, so welcome to pay television!

8. A mother and baby class

Routine and spending so much time at home can be very stressful for a mother and her baby, so a good idea is to suggest a different activity to do together. It could be a massage course, a yoga class or perhaps advice on how to improve some aspect of motherhood that is more challenging, such as breastfeeding.

9. A few free hours

If you feel confident and ready, offer to babysit for a few hours and let the new mom do whatever she wants. Time is at a premium for postpartum women, and sometimes the best gift is to give her a few hours to do nothing or relax while sitting in a coffee shop. Independence and solitude, even for a little while, is a wonderful gift for many new moms.

10. A sleep course for newborns

Infant sleep can be one of the biggest challenges that comes with the arrival of a newborn into the home. And since no baby comes with a manual under their arm, an excellent gift is to give that mom and dad all the possible tools to get a good night's sleep (for the baby, and therefore for the whole family).

Do you know our Newborn Sleep Course ? A 100% online course that brings together the essentials you need to know about the sleep of a baby from 0 to 4 months, what to expect, what is normal, how to respond, and also strategies and tips to have a very good experience in relation to infant sleep.
